Jane Lee Murphy RN, BSN Endowed Nursing Scholarship

Jane Lee Curl is a proud alumna of Riverside City College. Because of an $80 scholarship, along with her hard work and a bit of kindness from others along the way, Jane was able to attend RCC’s School of Nursing and graduate in the first class of 1959. After graduating, Jane passed her board exams and secured a position in the operating room at Riverside County General Hospital. Soon, Jane met her husband, Charles Wayne Curl, and together they had two daughters. The Curl family moved to Tacoma Washington in 1972 and several years later Jane returned to college and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing in 1981. She then worked 21 years for a home health agency doing visiting nursing, then recruitment and staff development. Jane fully retired from the Nursing profession in 2002.
During her academic journey and early career, Jane was impacted by small acts of kindness from others, and this is part of the reason she decided to establish an endowed scholarship for the RCC School of Nursing. From the $80 scholarship that enabled her to pursue her academic goal, to the professor that provided her a textbook when she couldn’t afford it, to the faculty member who helped secure her job placement after graduation, Jane has a deep compassion for the challenges RCC students may face because of her own experiences. Jane has never forgotten the people that helped her, and has determined to give others a chance to go to RCC’s School of Nursing.
