Doug Jacobs Memorial Scholarship

On January 13, 2001, the Riverside community experienced a tremendous loss when Riverside Police Detective Charles “Doug” Jacobs III was killed in the line of duty. A Riverside native, Detective Jacobs was a 1988 graduate of Arlington High School and attended RCC for two years, receiving an Associate of Arts degree in June of 1990. Doug and his wife Tammy were the proud parents of Nick and Rachael. Higher education was especially important to Doug. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of La Verne, and at the time of his passing he was completing a Master’s program at Chapman University.
Knowing the important role of education in Doug’s life, and aware that he was an alumnus of Arlington High School and Riverside Community College, faculty and staff at both institutions have established this scholarship in his name through the RCC Foundation. The special fund is one way to recognize and assist future students in our community who share Doug’s dedication and commitment to education. Doug’s family is honored by this deserved recognition. This scholarship will be awarded in alternate years to assist a continuing student with a 2.5 GPA either preparing for a career in Law Enforcement or for active Law Enforcement officers seeking higher education at Riverside City College (odd numbered years); Or, to assist a graduate of Arlington High School wishing to attend Riverside City College (even numbered years).
