Dorcas Bingaman Wilson Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Dorcas Bingaman Wilson graduated as an RN from Blessing Hospital School of Nursing, Quincy IL, in 1941 at the age of 21. She enlisted in the Army thinking she would be assigned to a stateside hospital. Instead, she found herself on the way to England where she served as a First Lt. Surgical Nurse in several field hospitals in England and Scotland until 1945. From that point on she devoted her life to helping others. Even in her 80’s she was still baking bread to take to shut-ins from her church and visiting anyone who was in a hospital or a nursing home. The family wishes to honor her memory by established this scholarship for RN nursing students in the hopes that there will be more nurses like her, always giving to and caring for others. This scholarship is awarded to a continuing Riverside City College Nursing student who has a 3.0 GPA or higher and has demonstrated financial need.
