Mac and Barbara McCluskey Backstreet Family Culinary Scholarship

Mac and Barbara McCluskey opened the BackStreet Restaurant on July 10, 1967. Barbara designed the BackStreet Restaurant to look and feel as she imagined New Orleans to be.

In 2000, Mac and Barbara retired, and their daughter Kitty and her husband Keith Holloway, continued to operate the BackStreet Restaurant and serve the best sandwiches and banana pie in Riverside. In March 2020, while bedridden, Barbara continued to pitch new business ideas. She thought of opening a drive-thru ice cream shop during the pandemic- “Make a little money, make people happy.”

Barbara leaves her daughter, Kelly and husband Jess, son Casey and wife Laura, grandsons Connor and Carson, daughter Kitty and husband Keith.
