Golden State Social Opportunities Program

The Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) works to increase and diversify California’s healthcare workforce by providing scholarships and loan repayments to health professional students and graduates who provide direct care in those communities. The purpose of the Golden State Social Opportunities Program (GSSOP) is to increase the number of highly trained behavioral health professionals providing direct care in California-based nonprofit organizations. Those awarded the Golden State Social Opportunities scholarship may receive up to $25,000 per year for a total of up to $50,000. If awarded, recipients agree to a twenty-four (24) month service obligation practicing in an eligible healthcare profession, providing a minimum of 32 hours per week of direct care in a community-based organization.
