Cecil and Janet Green Endowed Scholarship
Cecil Dennis Green served as Dean of Occupational Education for Riverside City College from 1966-76, and was committed to vocational education. Professionally, Cecil also served as Coordinator and Professor of a Master’s Degree program at Cal State Long Beach. Honored for his outstanding service as a Mediator for Riverside County Superior Court, Cecil also served as a panelist for Los Angeles Appellate Court and as a Commissioner for the State Bar. His volunteerism included leadership of the Rotary and Lions Clubs, Inland Empire International Business Association, as a delegate for the City of Riverside Sister Cities program, Inland Empire National Bank Consumer Credit Counseling Service, Children’s Home Society and Canyon Crest Country Club. Cecil passed away in 2013 following a battle with cancer.
Following a successful career as Head Nurse in the emergency room at Riverside General Hospital and 4 years of service in the United States Air Force, Janet Green enjoyed a longstanding career in the community college system. She is a graduate of the University of Redlands and holds a master’s degree in Administration of Vocational Education from California State University, Long Beach. An avid career tech proponent, she served as a faculty member and administrator for San Bernardino Valley College before being elected to the RCCD Board of Trustees in 2006. She is a leader in both her service as a Trustee (past president and current vice president), serving on the Inland Valley Trustee Association, and the Advisory Committee on Legislation for the Community College League; and in the community: Athena International, Fair Housing Council (Board President), Inland Agency, State Bar Board of Governance, NAACP, Latino Network, State Emergency Medical Service Committee, Center for Civil Education in Calabasas, and she served for 7 years as the only public member of the Judicial Task Force, rewriting the Civil Jury Instructions for California.
This scholarship was established by Mrs. Green in 2015 in recognition of the outstanding commitment to education that she and Cecil shared.
