Tom Holas Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is offered in loving memory of Tom Holas, who despite living with severe physical disabilities managed to overcome adversity, excel at game development and digital arts and become an inspiration and mentor to those who knew him. Tom Holas discovered his passion for video game design and development at five years of age and pursued his dreams with little regard for his physical limitations. At a very young age, Tom was brainstorming ideas for cyber worlds and future projects. He began taking animation classes as soon as they were offered, first at Corona High School and later at Norco College. After completing his general education, Tom enrolled in several Game Development programs at Norco College including Game Design and Game Art, quickly working his way to the top of his class and earning many awards along the way, including the top award of “Outstanding Game Student”.
Tom’s spirit, positive attitude and dedication are remembered by peers and professors alike as he was always ready and willing to help others improve their skills. He was incredibly talented and loved sharing what he knew, always pushing his peers to higher levels while encouraging creativity and innovation. During his college career, Tom spent countless hours at Corona High School mentoring the next generation following in his footsteps (or, more appropriately, wheel tracks) and offered help to fellow classmates at Norco College. Tom’s passion, work ethic, and insatiable drive towards excellence inspired and motivated those he worked with. Although his life ended early in January 2016, Tom’s dreams will never be forgotten. We hope Tom’s legacy will continue to inspire and motivate future Game Developers and Game Artists in perpetuity through this scholarship program.
