Afton Williamson Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Afton Williamson was truly a special individual. A silent giant, she has been described as, “highly intelligent, selfless, and a little ditzy.” She was born and raised in Menifee, CA, and graduated from Paloma Valley High School in 2007. Softball was Afton’s life passion since the age of 4, following in her sister Erin’s footsteps. An excellent student, Afton graduated in the top 1% of her high school class with a 4.3 GPA. Her passion for softball and her academic excellence continued as she enrolled in Fall 2007 at Riverside City College and became the team’s leading pitcher. In addition to her skill on the mound, Afton was an inspiration to her teammates – a role model, a tutor for many, and a friend to all. After graduating in Spring 2009 with her AA degree, she played travel ball in the Summer of 2009 before enrolling at Dickinson State University in North Dakota on a full-ride athletic scholarship. She proudly wore the #9 throughout her high school and college career.
Afton, along with two teammates, lost her life on November 3, 2009 in a tragic accident in North Dakota. Through this scholarship, Afton’s legacy of caring and her passion for softball will continue in perpetuity. This scholarship will be awarded each spring to a transferring member of the Riverside City College Softball Team who shares Afton’s academic excellence and passion for the sport of softball. The scholarship is awarded to a student transferring to continue to play softball with a 3.0 or higher GPA.
